Bukavu: Capacity-building for 30 FARDC Officers


South-Kivu, 09 May 2014 - MONUSCO organized between 23rd April - 07 May 2014, in Bukavu, a training for the officers of the 10th Military region of the DRC Armed Forces on new combat tactics, intelligence, information systems as well as on the role and function of the Military top management.

For two weeks, the 30 officers of the 10th military region received training not only on smooth collaboration between military command and military justice jurisdictions, but also on humanitarian International Law, Human Rights and Child Protection in conflict situation. The capacity-building for the DRC Army officers fits in with the security sector reform. The second phase of the training will be focused on a trainers’ training to make the 10th military region autonomous in this regard.

At the end of the training, participants said the training was productive insofar as it helped them “refresh their minds.” He expressed the hope to the training expand not only to other military regions but also to the sectors military senior command and battalions of the 10th military region” identified as pilot region. Colonel Philippe Sidos of MONUSCO Security Sector Reform, for his part, urged participants to apply the teachings received, recalling that in the area of military operations planning, “The first gunshot should trigger reflections on the next plan.”

The training was jointly initiated by FARDC senior command and MONUSCO Unit in charge of security sector reform.
