MONUSCO hands over schoolstationery to the Foundation St. Laurent and Bakhita in Kisangani

Wednesday, 4 November 2014 - The Public Information Section of the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in the DR Congo, Kisangani office flew to the rescue of orphans and othervulnerable children in the city of Kisangani by donatingschoolstationery to the Foundation St. Laurent et Bakhita in Boyoma, the district of Makisowhichtakes care of them. The head of the Fondation, a Religiousnun by the name of Régine Amboyowelcomed the donation and referred to the gesture as a proof of MONUSCO’s care for such a category of children.

The donation was made up of threehundreds magazines, schoolbags and umbrellasdestined for at least a hundredvulnerableschool children including 23 girls on the boardingschool the oldest of whombeing 17 yearsold. According to the nun, the donation of the schoolstationery has come at the right time insofar as «itwillspare us major expensesatthisdifficult time,» said the nun.

In existence in Kisangani since 1991, the Foundationwasestablished by ReverendFatherGiovaniniPross; itaccommodates a hundred children the majority of whom are abandoned children. 48 children live withtheirfamilies but come to the Foundation house just for food.

MONUSCO Public Information in Kisangani wouldlike to extendthisgesture to othersimilar structures in the same city and its hinterlands.
