MONUSCO’s mandate explained to the students of “Institut MUSOYI in Shamwana”

Manono (North Katanga) – “Understanding the concept of island of stability and the UNSC Resolution 2211” is theme selected for the sensitization session organized by MONUSCO’s public information section with a view to sensitizing the students of the “Institut MUSOYI” in Shamwana, a community situated 175 Km from the south-east of the Manono center. The institute is participating for the first time in the ‘State exams” after 3 years’ absence due to repeated raids by the Maï-Maï-Kata-Katanga.

With the stabilization efforts made by FARDC with support from MONUSCO to establish the Mpiana island of stability, the process for the restoration of the state authority is becoming effective and as a result, school activities are picking up. Altogether, 35 students will have to walk a long distance to take part in the state exams.
The students were updated on the building of a community radio for their community by MONUSCO through its quick impact project with a view to creating an alternative to the inter-community clashes by facilitating dialogue and tolerance (diversity of opinions on the air), to contribute to the restoration of confidence between the opposed ethnical groups, to get the messages from the local authorities across to the population and also to contribute to the efforts for pacification and the restoration of a lasting peace.
“For over 3 years, the school was closed, torched by the Maï-Maï-Kata-Katanga and today, we are resuming; I hope I will get my state diploma” said a student.
The school does not have any teaching record, teachers are not officially registered; however, they are doing their best to ensure high quality teaching.
