Kolwezi: MONUSCO Detachment in Kolwezi redeployed to Bendera

A MONUSCO-Lubumbashi delegation met last Friday with the municipal authorities of Kolwezi, some 300 km from Lubumbashi, to inform them that the MONUSCO detachment that was based in their town had been transferred to the locality of Bendera, in Kalemie territory, North Katanga.

The delegation, which was made up of representatives from the Political Affairs section, the Katanga Sector and Radio Okapi, told its interlocutors that the tasks entrusted to that detachment will henceforth be carried out by MONUSCO-Lubumbashi. The MONUSCO-Lubumbashi office will organize patrols in Kolwezi one a month, the delegation said.

The Kolwezi municipal authorities welcomed this news. The mayor Tshime Jinga thanked MONUSCO for the service rendered to her constituents during the MONUSCO detachment’s deployment there, adding that Kolwezi is now sufficiently secure.

Referring to the announced patrols to be organized in Kolwezi by the MONUSCO-Lubumbashi office, the mayor expressed the wish to see this translated into action.
