International Youth Day: MONUSCO encourages Great Lakes youth to promote peace

North-Kivu youth have acquired a site that will host the youth cultural center in the Great Lakes Region. The leader of the North-Kivu youth received from the provincial youth minister, the property documents of the site offered by the provincial government in a ceremony organized Thursday 13 August in the conference hall of the Full Gospel on the occasion of the celebration of the International Youth Day organized with support from MONUSCO which helped youth representatives from different ICGLR member countries to watch the event.

Before handing over the property papers, the youth followed carefully three presentations: the first around the theme “Youth commitment to the electoral process given by the academic research work supervisor, Chimère from the University of Goma.

The second presentation focused on youth contribution to peace consolidation was held by the chair of the Provincial Youth Council, Mr. Guy KIBIRA.

The third presentation addressed MONUSCO’s mandate and the UN Security Council Resolution 2211. It was given by Silvestre KILOLO of MONUSCO public information office in Goma.

The fruitful discussions held on the last theme helped the youth of Goma get a sense of MONUSCO’s mandate and activities, especially the work done by MONUSCO peacekeepers.
