Dungu: MONUSCO has organized a workshop on community dialogue

MONUSCO civil affairs section jointly with local authorities, organized a workshop on social and democratic dialogue on 17 - 18 August 2015 at the court room of Dungu; About 50 people attended the workshop.

The main objective of the workshop was to restore an atmosphere of trust between the different actors and to promote better working and living conditions as well as good governance. The actors had the opportunity to freely express their perception of social dialogue as well as their roles and responsibilities. This helped them determine the key sectors likely to pose problems and, based on the thematic, they set up working groups to identify the possible way out.

The following themes were addressed: health, education, urbanism and public work, natural resources, environment, agriculture, rural development and Congolese National Police (PNC). After productive discussions, the following recommendations were formulated:

- Child police unit shall organize patrolling services to ensure that under aged children no longer visit pubs and thereby reduce sexual violence;
- increased strength of the police to ensure community policing and enhanced rapid reaction capabilities,
- Youth shall be associated to community discussions
- All the parties shall work in accordance with the diagnosis, set priorities and objectives, and promote permanent dialogue. A committee was set up to monitor the implementation of the recommendations issued by the working group.
