SRSG Martin Kobler sensitizes MONUSCO staff against sexual exploitation and abuse


Following allegations on sexual abuse against peacekeepers in the Central African Republic, Martin Kobler, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in the DRC made an awareness-raising and information sharing tour for MONUSCO civilian and military personnel respectively to Kisangani, Bunia, Béni, Kamango and Bukavu, Mutarule and Goma…

Martin Kobler started his tour on Saturday 22 August 2015 and was accompanied by MONUSCO Force Commander, General Carlos Dos Santos Cruz; MONUSCO Police Chief, General Pascal Champion, and his chief of staff, Ian Sinclair. He made it clear that the Mission will strictly implement the zero tolerance policy, pursuant to the guidelines issued by the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon.

During his talks with MONUSCO staff, Martin Kobler reminded them the United Nations rules on above matter and urged all the staff members to show increased sense of responsibility in order to preserve the UN image and enhance confidence among civilian populations whom they are called upon to protect, in full compliance with their mandate.

Furthermore, he took note of the staff respective concerns in a productive discussion he held with them. He assured them of his continued support and reiterated his determination to implement the zero tolerance concept – zero indulgence – zero impunity…
