The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in DRC, Dr. Mamadou Diallo, arrived in Beni for a working visit on 25 August 2015.

Doctor Mamadou Diallo travelled Wednesday 26 August respectively to the districts of Eringeti, Mayi Moya,

Samboko and Oicha, territory of Beni to assess the humanitarian situation in this area. «Some quick humanitarian actions are needed to mobilize resources and create enabling conditions in Beni. We don’t need to wait. I am going to mobilize the humanitarian family so that they could come to the rescue of the populations. Not only through distributing food stuffs but also through trying to create conditions for the return to normalcy and for children to resume their studies, starting next year, by addressing the supply issues in terms of water, sanitation… As an example, in Eringeti, the part we visited has hospitals including a refurbished surgery unit but no equipment. We must find the necessary resources to purchase drugs for the local population and provide them with free of charge medical care,” Dr. Mamadou Diallo told the press.

Before departing on 27 August, he held a round of talks with the Mayor and administrator of the city of Beni, local authorities and civil society leaders.

The Deputy-Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in charge of humanitarian affairs in DRC was accompanied by MONUSCO Deputy Force Commander, General Jean Baillaud, and the head of the Stabilization Support Unit, Richard de la Falaise.
