Tuesday 29 September 2015- The Secretary-General met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), H.E. Mr. Raymond Tshibanda N’tungamulongo.

The Secretary-General encouraged the Government of the DRC to make continued progress on the implementation of its commitments under the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the country and the region (PSC Framework). He also underscored the need for a peaceful and credible electoral process in the DRC.

The Secretary-General noted the importance of implementing the Nairobi Declarations, including the repatriation of former Mouvement du 23 mars (M23) elements from Rwanda and Uganda. He called for further progress on the neutralization of armed groups in eastern DRC, including the Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda (FDLR).

The Secretary-General underscored the importance of the ongoing strategic dialogue between the United Nations and the DRC Government on the future of UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).

The Secretary-General commended the DRC’s contribution to peacekeeping efforts in the Central African Republic and welcomed the efforts undertaken by the Government of the DRC to ensure its troops meet the highest standards of conduct.
