Restoration of State authority: MONUSCO reinforces the capacity of judicial police officers in Masis

Uvira, 30 September 2015

– As part of the process of restoring State authority, the Justice and Corrections Administration Support section of MONUSCO-Uvira held a capacity-building session for 11 Judicial police officers of the mining town of Masisi, in Fizi territory, North Kivu province.

The session taking place on 23 September 2015 was organized in collaboration with the Public Prosecuting Office connected to the Court of Fizi.

The training covered three main topics: the technique for identification of offences, the interrogation technique and the use of the penal code.

On this occasion, 8 judicial police officers (JPO) of the territory were each handed a copy of the Congolese Penal Code which also contains provisions on judicial and criminal protection of children as laid down in the Law on the Protection of the Child adopted in 2009.

This is intended to help these JPO improve their intellectual skills and also to strengthen compliance with the rule requiring that offences and penalties must be strictly defined by law.
