MONUSCO organizes training for Congolese police on how to secure the electoral process

Uvira, 26 November 2015 – This 2nd training and refresher course for the Congolese National Police Force, PNC in the French acronym held in the territory of Uvira, South-Kivu province, started on Monday 23 November 2015; it was initiated and organized by the United Nations Civil Police “MONUSCO-Uvira”; it was focused on how best to secure the electoral process.

The opening ceremony was chaired by the Uvira territorial Administrator; like the first, the second session was attended by a hundred staff members drawn from Urban Police stations and Intervention Mobile Group based in Uvira. For two weeks, several modules will be reviewed by trainers: General Intelligence (RG), Maintenance of Public Order and Peace, Intervention Professional Technics and Tactics and... the electoral Process.

According to Monusco-Uvira Civil Police, "the objective pursued by this training session is to equip the Congolese police with means to own the legal framework of their actions in the area of securing the elections, through teaching them appropriate methods and professional technics to secure the upcoming elections."

The training is given by a multi-disciplinary team made up of the United Nations civil Police, the Congolese National Police, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Red Cross and the United Nations Joint Human Right Office.
