Refresher course for Police officers on securing the electoral process

Kisangani, on 2 December 2015 - 530 police officers of the Congolese National Police including 37 female police in the Tshopo province received training on securing electoral process, from 29 September to 14 November 2015; the training was given by MONUSCO UNPOL Police. The closing ceremony was organized by the Police leadership on Wednesday 2 December 2015 at PNC HQ in a ceremony attended by military leadership, the Special Commissioner of Tshopo and the Chief of MONUSCO-KISANGANI office.

Mr. Mpo Lucien Nda, Sector Chief UNPOL/Kisangani said in his speech that the training intended for 530 police officers including 37 female officers was aimed to build the operational and professional capacities of the PNC officials and to minimize the human rights violations as well as the number of victims during the electoral period.

The Sector Chief UNPOL/Kisangani highlighted that eight themes relating to the electoral process were adressed during the training: maintenance of order and peace, intervention technics and acts, human rights, general intelligence, professional code of ethics, static guarding technics and first aid. He further said he was satisfied with the quality of the teachings given, which will help the police officers do their job with professionalism during the upcoming elections.

They also took the opportunity to introduce the Special Commissioner and his two Deputies to the defense and security forces in the city of KISANGANI.
