Kinshasa, DR Congo: International Day of Friendship celebrated on July 30th of each year, was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. MONUSCO organized a month-long activism for child protection in the North-Kivu


Goma, 24 July 2015: The commemoration of the African Child Day on 16 June gave rise to a month-long activism for child protection, initiated by MONUSCO with contributions from UNICEF and partner NGOs. The session was closed with sensitization and cultural activities organized by the Child Protection Section and the United Nations Mine Actions Service (UNMAS).

Uvira, 24 July 2015 – From 21 through 24 July 2015, the military court of Uvira barracks organized mobile court hearings in Runingu, roughly twenty kilometers away from Uvira in the South Kivu province.

UNPC – Anniversary Commemoration

Goma, 22 July 2015: MONUSCO North Kivu has received an honorary award as best Partner to the Congolese Press in Goma. The award was presented to   Public Information Division during the commemoration of the 35 anniversary of the Congolese National Press Union (UNPC) on  July 22, 2015 in recognition of the  support  and   good collaboration between MONUSCO and Congolese Journalists in general and the Union of Congolese Press in particular in North Kivu .

MONUSCO Force Commander visits Burundian refugees’ camp in Lusenda, South Kivu

During his recent visit to Burudian refugees’ camp in Lusenda, South Kivu, General Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz said he was satisfied with the measures taken or envisaged for the protection of some 7,000 refugees living there, promising however to reinforce those with logistical support from the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the DR Congo.

30 July: World Day against Trafficking in Persons

Martin Kobler, Head of MONUSCO and Hans-Petter Boe, Chief of Mission a.i of the Office of the International Organization for Migration, reaffirm the need to collectively fight against Trafficking in Persons

Kinshasa, 30 July 2015 – “We welcome the observance of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons. In this context, we must remain vigilant and take all preventive measures to collectively fight against the serious threat posed by human traffickers to society in the DRC” declared Martin Kobler, Head of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), on the occasion of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
