MONUSCO warns M23 against its repeated attacks on UN helicopters


Kinshasa, 28 December 2012: On 26 December 2012 at approximately 20 hours, two MONUSCO helicopters were 20 kilometers North of Goma undertaking a routine flying certification when they were fired upon; once from Kibumba and again from Kanyamahoro, two localities under M23 control. This is the second time that UN helicopters have been deliberately targeted by M23 elements during the month of December 2012.

UN alarmed over killings in Masisi territory in DR Congo


Kinshasa / Geneva 29 August 2012 – The UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the DRC, Roger Meece, expressed deep concern today over reports of further massacres of civilians in Masisi territory, North Kivu at the beginning of August - the latest in a series of violent attacks by armed groups systematically targeting the civilian population.

MONUSCO invites political actors to preserve a peaceful environment and to use legally prescribed channels to resolve disputes

Kinshasa, 14 March 2012: The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) welcomes today’s decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the trial of Thomas Lubanga Dyilo, found guilty of enlisting and conscripting child soldiers in the East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) between 2002 and 2003. The verdict is the first ever issued by the ICC since its establishment in 2002.

MONUSCO evacutes victims of Shabunda attacks

 

Kinshasa, 09 January 2012: MONUSCO strongly condemns the attacks on civilians by armed groups in several remote villages in Shabunda territory of South Kivu Province.

During 1 and 4 January 2012, MONUSCO received reports that about 45 civilians were killed and at least 50 were injured by the Forces Démocratiques de Libération du Rwanda (FDLR) in two attacks. Population would have been displaced as a result of these attacks.
