CHAN 2016 : MONUSCO congratulates the DRC’s football team “Les Leopards” on winning the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2016)

Kinshasa, 7 February 2016 – All MONUSCO staff and the chief of MONUSCO Maman Sambo Sidikou, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC congratulates “Les Leopards,” the Congolese National team, on their wonderful victory on Sunday 7 February 2016, during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2016.

“I warmly congratulate the Congolese football players on their splendid performance and victory, as well as the Government on their efforts made in preparing the team but; above all, I highly praise the Congolese people for their unwavering support to “Les Leopards” throughout this competition. Moreover, I applaud the communion of hearts and minds shown by the Congolese people during this CHAN”, said MONUSCO’s chief.

The      DRC’s “Leopards” defeated “Les Aigles” of Mali by three goals to nil in the cup final of the African Nations Championship 2016. DRC has therefore become the first country to win, for the second time this competition, exclusively intended for the local players performing on the African continent.
