Ituri : A campaign to explain Security Council resolution 1925

Bunia, 23 August 2010 – MONUSCO Public Information office launched a sensitization campaign on Security Council resolution 1925, adopted on May 28, 2010, on MONUSCO mandate, in order to inform and educate the population of Ituri on the switch from MONUC to MONUSCO . The campaign began last August 19 in Bunia in the presence of representatives of the civil society, religious groups and students organizations

The campaign opened with an official inauguration ceremony chaired by MONUSCO Head of Office a. i. in Bunia , Christine Kapalata. She asked the participants to convey the message of this campaign to cover all areas of Ituri .

The office of Public Information, in a presentation entitled "Understanding resolution 1925" reviewed then the history of UN missions in the Congo from ONUC to MONUSCO through MONUC and stressed that the protection of civilians is a priority, including support to the DRC government in the fight against national and foreign armed groups, the reconstruction of the country and the elections.

The ceremony ended with a series of questions and answers between the assistance and MONUSCO heads of sections who provided clarification on various topics regarding the new mandate of the Mission.
