Kenyan Ambassador Visits William Elachi Press Center

Kenyan Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo His Excellency Dr George MASAFU has visited the MONUSCO William Elachi Press Center on the 21 of March 2016.

Speaking to the local Press the Ambassador said his visit to the Press Center was intended to convey the Kenyan government’s appreciation to MONUSCO for naming this center after his late fellow countryman, William Elachi, who died in Goma on 10 October 2014, while serving with the MONUSCO Public Information Division.

Apart from visiting the Press Center the Kenyan diplomat said he had also come to Goma to promote diplomatic and economic relations between Kenya and Congo since Kenya is the gateway for Congolese import and Export through the port of Mombasa.

The Kenyan Equity bank  he added has acquired  a  75% stake  in the Congolese Pro Credit bank  .This prospect  he  said  will make  it easier for  Congolese and Kenyan business men  to move money between the two countries.

The Ambassador said he will also be holding talks with the provincial government officials to ease consular services between Kenyans visiting the DRC and vice versa. He announced the eminent take off of Kenya Airways services between Nairobi and Goma.  There are also plans to link Kisangani and Mombasa by railway lines. 

On the political developments in DRC Ambassador George MASAFU said it was upon the Congolese to decide their destiny without external interference.
It should be noted that this was the Kenyan Ambassador’s first visit to Goma and North Kivu. He was accompanied by his wife, among others.
