Kalemie, 10 March 2016 - MONUSCO-Kalemie office held early this week an awareness session at the naval base of the 22nd FARDC group of Kalemie.  This awareness session, which was conducted by the Child Protection section, brought together 173 military personnel, 3 of them women, of various ranks, including junior officers and lower ranks. 

 This activity was undertaken in the context of the implementation of the joint Government-United Nations technical working group's action plan to end the recruitment of children into armed groups and to fight against sexual violence in Tanganyika province.

On this occasion, the participants were informed, among others things, on the six grave violations against children in times of conflict, and were made aware of the important role they can play to stop this phenomenon.

Since February 2016, about 500 personnel of the security sector in Tanganyika province have received similar training.  These include personnel of the Congolese National Police, the Migration General Department, and the intelligence services.  The action plan provides for imparting such training to personnel of all FARDC military structures in the province.
