The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General applauds the political agreement signed by DRC’s political actors

Kinshasa, 1st January 2017 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in DRC applauds the 31st December 2016 agreement signed at «Centre Interdiocésain de Kinshasa » by DRC’s signatories of the 18th October 2016 agreement and the Opposition platform that did not attend that forum.

Mr. Sidikou congratulates the “Conférence Episcopale Nationale  du Congo (CENCO)”, the entire political leadership, the civil society organizations and the other actors for showing a high sense of responsibility which led to the agreed recommendations. “The long-awaited inclusiveness has helped to reach a wider consensus; however, this work must continue and political stability must be safeguarded through implementing every item contained in this new political roadmap”, declared Maman Sidikou.

The updating of the voter’s list must proceed with logistic and technical support from MONUSCO. Both the Political actors and the population must show a strong commitment to create a conducive environment for free, fair and credible elections, concluded the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in DRC.
