MONUSCO Chief, Roger Meece, completes his three-year assignment, leaves the country

Kinshasa, 27 June 2013 - The Chief of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), Roger Meece, left the Mission yesterday afternoon after completing his term of office as Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the DRC.

Staff members noteworthy among them the Deputy-Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and humanitarian Coordinator, Moustapha Soumaré, and a number of Heads of divisions and sections waved goodbye to the UN diplomat as he exited the Mission's headquarters.

Mr. Meece was on familiar ground in the Democratic Republic of Congo for having previously served as the United States ambassador in the country before being appointed chief of MONUSCO in 2010.

The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, on 10 June, appointed Mr. Martin Kobler from Germany, as his New Special Representative in the DRC.
