MONUSCO Denounces Fraudulent Use of UN Mission and UNSC’s Names

Kinshasa 15 March 2011 - It has been brought to the attention of the United Nations Organization Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, (MONUSCO) that some individuals have been using the name of both the United Nations Security Council and MONUSCO to fraudulently obtain money from mining companies doing business in the Congo.

In their bid to dupe their victims, the individuals have presented documents bearing fake letterheads of both the UN Security Council and the Mission as well as a forged seal of the UN Security Council.

They go at length to explain that the United Nations is working together with a Congolese Ministry and that we issue licences for the exportation of mining products.

MONUSCO and indeed the UN Security Council wish to make it abundantly clear that they do not provide clearances for commercial transactions of any kind.
