MONUSCO Provides Vocational Training for some Matadi Women

Matadi, 6 November 2012 – Twenty two learners completed on 3 November 2012 their training at the Centre de Récupération du Réseau des Femmes africaines économistes (REFAE) located in the neighbourhood of Ville-Basse in Matadi, the provincial capital of Bas-Congo.

For a year now, this centre has been training a first group of unemployed young women, teenage mothers and illiterate women originating from the province.

Training courses include beauty, dressmaking, hairdressing and computer science. The construction of the centre, which cost USD 24,611, was funded by the Quick-impact Projects Unit of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).

The graduation ceremony was chaired by a representative of the provincial Minister for Gender, and attended by several local political and religious authorities and a MONUSCO delegation led by a senior representative of the Electoral Assistance Division.
