Pakistani peacekeeper killed in an ambush in the South-Kivu province

Kinshasa, 08 May 2013
– The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo condemns in the strongest possible terms the attack perpetrated Tuesday 7 May 2013 on one of its military convoy, between Walungu and Bukavu, in the Sud-Kivu province that killed one Pakistani peacekeeper.

"This is a cowardly and unjustified attack", declared Roger Meece, Special Representative of the Secretary General in DRC. We appealed to DRC Government's officials to open investigations to identify those who perpetrated such a despicable act and bring them to justice", he said.

The Mission recalls that Peacekeepers are above all in the service of peace. Any deliberate targeted attack on them constitutes a war crime.
