Press Realease following the demise of Papa Wemba

The United Nations share the Congolese people’s pain following the demise of its famous musician and artist, globally known as Papa Wemba 

Kinshasa​ - 25 April 2016 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the DRC Maman Sambo Sidikou is deeply saddened by the news of the death of Papa Wemba.

Papa Wemba is a legend and highly talented artist who carried high the banner of not only the Congolese but also the African music and culture in the world’s music arena. Papa Wemba’s contribution consists of an immense and rich repertoire of songs which will make him ever be remembered by the present and future generations.

On behalf of the United Nations family in the DRC, Mr. Maman Sidikou extends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the departed music star and to the entire Congolese nation.
