Security Forces and Community Leaders Sensitized in Nord-Kivu province

Beni, 25 June 2011
– The Nord Kivu-based office of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) organized between 17 and 25 June an all-encompassing sensitization program for sections of the Congolese National Armed Forces (FARDC), National Police (PNC), National Intelligence Agency (ANR), civil society organizations and community leaders. The participants were drawn from the districts of Luna, Mutwanga, Bulongo, Erengeti and Oicha, in the territories of Beni and Lubero.

The activities were carried out jointly by MONUSCO's sections of Child Protection, Civil Affairs, Disarmament, Demobilization, Repatriation Reintegration and Resettlement (DDRRR), and the United Nations Joint Human Rights Office (BCNUDH).

These components intervened in their areas of activities with presentations on a variety of subjects such as the UN Mission's mandate, MONUSCO'S collaboration with FARDC on the disarmament of armed groups, children associated with armed forces and groups, family reunification and child soldiers' reintegration, FARDC's reform, and civilian protection.
