UN Secretary-General Arrives in Goma

Kinshasa, 23 May 2013 – The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon arrived this Thursday morning in the Nord Kivu province from Kinshasa as part of a joint mission to the sub-region with the President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim. The purpose of the visit is to back the implementation of the Framework Agreement signed at Addis-Ababa on 24 February by the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Uganda as well as eight other countries in the sub-region.

Upon arriving at Goma at about 11 hours, both high-ranking personalities were met by the provincial Governor, Julien Paluku. The Secretary-General was accompanied by his Special Representative, Roger Meece, Chief of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
