Uvira: 17 Gender focal points trained on women’s rights protection in humanitarian interventions

Uvira, 8 October 2015 – MONUSCO Joint Human Rights Office in Uvira organized on Wednesday 7 October 2015, a training for seventeen Gender focal points and members of different humanitarian sub-clusters in the Territory of Uvira, South-Kivu. The training was held in OCHA’s meeting hall and focused on the theme: Gender, women’s rights protection in humanitarian interventions

. The training session was designed for member Organizations of the Gender focal points network; its objective was to enhance the capacity of the members of the focal points network in doing better actions programming in favor of men, women, girls and boys.

Participants including 7 women familiarized themselves with the Gender concepts as well as the framework for equal sex sensitive programming in the humanitarian actions as a tool for Gender analysis. Sabine Woube, trainer’s facilitator and Advisor to Women’s Rights Protection to the Joint Human Rights Office in MONUSCO-Uvira, presented a case study on Gender analysis which focused on the relevance, ownership, partnership, feasibility, sustainability and innovation criteria in a Gender-sensitive programming action.

At the end of the half-day training session, participants expressed satisfaction over the training received. They formulated some recommendations, one of which the Joint Human Rights Office should proceed with such trainings to better implement Gender in areas such as education, health, environment or farming.
