Empowering government institutions in Matadi, Bas-Congo, to fight Sexual Violence

Matadi, 20 November 2012 - The public prosecutor for the high court in Matadi, Bas-Congo province, as well as the military prosecutor, received on 20 November 2012 in their respective premises, a gift in the form of office furniture and equipment from the Swedish Project for the fight against sexual violence.

The United Nations Joint Human Rights Office in Matadi was tasked to hand over the donation to the two institutions, which are involved in the fight against sexual violence in Bas-Congo. The gift worth US $10,000 is part of the Swedish project known for its actions against sexual violence. According to project officials, another support project is underway with the same amount.

The human rights coordinator in Matadi, Tettekpoe Assiongbon Richard, and the public prosecutor for the high court, Jean Kapita, co-presided over this ceremony.
