Refresher session for the Congolese Police Force initiated by the UNPOL in Dungu

At the initiative of the United Nations Police components (UNPOL- Dungu), a refresher session for the Congolese National Police personnel (PNC) has been organized in Dungu from 7 September through 18 September on how best to secure the electoral process. It took place in the facilities of the District Police Commissioner.

About thirty PNC junior and senior members in Dungu are participating in this forum on how to maintain and restore peace and order (MROP) as well as on professional intervention technics (GTPI) and human rights.

The refresher session held in anticipation for the upcoming elections is critical, said the head of MONUSCO-Dungu in his opening speech “Needless to recall that DRC will be shortly organizing a number of elections at different levels; those elections are not only critical for the Congolese people, but also presents several stakes. Therefore, ensuring the safety of the elections becomes a critical issue and the police must be prepared to accompany effectively the process…. “

The training provided by UNPOL assisted by PNC trainers focus on the use of weapons, transition techniques (cordon and search operations), intervention and formation of a public force, human rights adapted to the context of the peace maintenance operations. Participants were given some drills.
