MONUSCO pays tribute to two Senegalese Police Officers

Goma, November 7th, 2014. MONUSCO Police on Friday 7 November paid their last respects to two Senegalese police officers who recently died while still serving in the North-Kivu province. The ceremony took place at one of MONUSCO bases in Goma and was attended by MONUSCO senior civilians and military officials as well as General Awashango Vital, Congolese national police commander in the North-Kivu province.

Staff sergeant Moussa Sagna and sergeant chief Alioune Diagne respectively died in September 2014 in South Africa and in October 2014 in Goma. For MONUSCO Police Commander in Chief, General Pascal Champion, the professional skills displayed by both Senegalese officers will be remembered as symbols of sacrifice for the Mission. Moussa Sagna and Alioune Diagne were posthumously awarded UN medals.
