ADF-NALU at the center of a tripartite meeting between DR Congo, Uganda and MONUSCO

Kisangani, 13 June 2012 – Kisangani, the provincial capital of Province Orientale hosted on Tuesday, 12 June 2012, a tripartite meeting between the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the Ugandan People's Defense Forces (UPDF).

This meeting was the first to be held on consultations for an evaluation of the operations against the Ugandan terrorist group, Ugandan Allied Democratic Forces ADF-NALU, which is active in the Ruwenzori region, Nord-Kivu province.

MONUSCO was represented at the meeting by Major General Adrian Foster, the Deputy Force Commander, while the Congolese delegations from Kinshasa and Kisangani were lead by the Commander-in-chief of the FARDC, General Didier Etumba, and UPDF by its army chief of staff, General Aronda Nyakaerima.

At the end of three hours of discussions, the meeting issued a final communiqué stating that this meeting is the result of the commitment by the Congolese and Ugandan Heads of state, "to create a peaceful and safe environment in the sub-region through the eradication of the negative forces and terrorist groups active in the area."

Furthermore, the Congolese and Ugandan Armed Forces applauded the level of collaboration reached by UPDF and FARDC, especially in respect to the exchange of intelligence about their common enemy.
