MONUSCO Force Commander Inaugurates Culvert on Important Road in Mushake

MONUSCO Force Commander, Lt General Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz, on 15 September 2014 inaugurated a concrete culvert constructed by MONUSCO in Mushake on the road connecting Sake to Masisi in North Kivu province.

Construction of the culvert was carried out by elements of the engineering unit of the MONUSCO Force Bangladeshi contingent at an estimated cost of 121 thousand US dollars.

In his remarks at this inauguration ceremony, the Force Commander, General dos Santos Cruz, commended the Bangladeshi contingent for their valuable contribution to development, civilian protection and State authority restoration efforts in Mushake and the territory of Masisi as a whole. And they did so in keeping with MONUSCO mandate in the Democratic Republic of Congo. .

For his part, the contingent commander, Lt Colonel Kabir, said that the culvert was constructed in Mushake “to address a critical bottle-neck on the Sake-Masisi road axis to facilitate mobility for both UN contingents and local inhabitants”.

Highlights of the inauguration ceremony included the cutting of the ribbon, unveiling of the plaque and symbolic handing over of the culvert to the local population.

The ceremony was attended by North-Kivu Territorial Administration officials, MONUSCO Force Headquarters representatives, as well as senior battalion commanders of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC).
