Students’ coordination in Kisangani reinforces partnership with MONUSCO

In Kisangani, the administrative town of the Eastern Province, Public Information Office of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) held on Thursday 23 April 2015, a working and informative session with a team of students’ Coordination for the Higher and University Education (CREEESU).

The purpose of the meeting that brought together twenty students from 15 Higher and University Establishments in the town of Kisangani were double fold: to get the students to understand the new UN Mission’s mandate in anticipation for the upcoming provincial, municipal and local elections and to plan a series of activities in the margin of the Peacekeepers’ Day, edition 2015.

CREEESU delegation, led by Christian Asumani Baraka of UNIKIS reiterated their determination to pursue partnership with MONUSCO-Kisangani. Discussions also focused on the productive collaboration to exist between both the UN and the university as well as on the organization of the edition 2015 of the Peacekeepers’ Day. In this regard, a conference debate will be held on the new MONUSCO’s mandate. 300 students from 15 higher and university institutions in Kisangani will be invited and soccer competition will be organized to include a dozen teams from higher and university institutions in Kisangani.

Mr. Baraka pledged that the committee will conduct outreach activities for students to be more familiar with the legal provisions on the organization of the elections.
