MONUSCO promotes social dialogue in the territory of Mambasa

Mambasa, 31 August 2015 - MONUSCO civil affairs section wrapped up a three-day workshop on the promotion of social dialogue in the territory of Mambasa on 28 August 2015.

About forty participants from the different districts of Mambasa attended the workshop whose objective was to help the civil society actors understand their role in the promotion of the democratic dialogue with a view to contributing to the stabilization of their territory.

A diagnosis conducted by MONUSCO civil Affairs section in Bunia suggests that the process for establishing dialogue between the provincial officials and the local population was not effective yet in spite of the operational restructuration of the civil society organizations achieved over 6 months ago in Mambassa.

Civil society in Mambasa does not know the role it should play in a democratic process or how their organization should function according to thematic Working Groups and local authorities complain that civil society organizations do not see them as a partner while they are bound to work together for the well-being of the population of Mambasa.

As a result, the workshop established a permanent framework for consultations between local authorities and civil society organizations, which will help both partners trigger, through dialogue, the development of Mambasa.
