Workshop on the capitalization of the civil society’s impact in Dungu


At the initiative of the civil society in Dungu and with the technical and logistic support of MONUSCO Civil Affairs Section, a workshop on the capitalization of the civil society’s impact in Dungu as part of the stabilization process was held on Tuesday 30 September 2015 in the conference hall of MONUSCO Dungu.

Dungu, 30th December 2015 - Roughly 55 participants including the territorial Administrator and his aids, the district officials of Wando, members of the Dialogue Framework, the Coordination team and civil Society actors in Dungu (SOCIDU) as well as representatives of the Civil Society organizations in Duru, Ngilima, Ndedu and Gangala-Na-Bodio attended the workshop.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the role and potentials of the civil society organizations in Dungu, to support the ongoing stabilization process for the restauration of lasting State authority backed by MONUSCO.

The meeting started with two speeches: one by the territorial Administrator and another one by the Chief of MONUSCO office in Dungu.

In his speech, the territorial Administrator, Mr. Edmond LOKAKAO focused on the close collaboration to exist between the established authority and civil society actors in Dungu; with regard to the chief of MONUSCO office, Leonidas NKINGIYE, he urged each and every one to work for a climate conducive to the consolidation of social peace and well-being for the population of the territory of Dungu.

Civil society coordinator in Haut UELE, (SOCIHU) Reverend ABAKUBA diagnosed the functioning of the civil society in the new Haut Uélé province, strongly recommending that be set up mechanisms for civil society’s involvement to the permanent consultations with the local authorities.

At the end of the reflections conducted by the working groups, participants formulated expectations to serve as the basis for the formulation of an action plan with a roadmap with a view to consolidating a permanent all-inclusive dialogue to enable the local authorities and civil society actors to interact for the well-being of the population of the Dungu territory.
