Martin Kobler: assault on UN peacekeepers in Bunia is unacceptable

Kinshasa, 03 February 2014: Early this morning, demonstrators in Bunia stoned several UN cars. Martin Kobler, the head of MONUSCO, said “This kind of assault on civilians and on our staff is not acceptable, whatever the reason”.

During the incidents a peacekeeper lost control of his car and received serious head injuries. Four local civilians were injured as well. The local PNC quickly intervened and are controlling the situation on the ground in cooperation with UNPOL.

“I wish a speedy recovery to all people injured, and I am calling the demonstrators to use peaceful means to express themselves” added Kobler.
