UN helps civil society in Ituri organize debriefing of national forum in Kinshasa

Bunia, 11 June 2014 – The United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), through its Civil Affairs sections, assisted civil society organizations in Bunia, Ituri in organizing a debriefing workshop of a national forum held in Kinshasa from 10 to 11 June 2014.

Altogether 53 delegates from civil society organizations from the five territories of Ituri, participated in the workshop whose objective was to debrief participants on the recommendations formulated by the national Symposium held in Kinshasa on 25 - 27 May 2009, as well as the gains of the National Forum held on 17 - 22 July 2013 in the same city Kinshasa..

In parallel sessions, delegates reviewed the recommendations regarding the establishment of thematic groups on the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Growth and Reduction Strategy Paper (DSRP in French acronym). Thematic groups should not only be a forum for dialogue on politics but also for consultations and harmonization between Government, technical and financial Partners, Civil Society, private Sector and Institutions in Support of Democracy...

In the plenary delegates adopted recommendations to be implemented in a near future. Thematic groups shall be formed based on the needs of local communities: security as well as political, administrative and local governance, justice and human rights and scientific research, culture and arts. Recommendations were also made to set up a framework for consultations between delegates for local populations, government and international community to interact on life in the community.
