MONUSCO retrains 28 Judiciary Police Officers in Uvira

13 June 2014: MONUSCO Police organized a 5-day re-training session on judiciary police techniques for Judiciary Police Officers in Uvira, South-Kivu province that ended on 13 June 2014

The retraining session, attended by 28 Judiciary Police Officers of the Congolese National Police force (PNC), was designed to help trainees improve the quality of investigations. Given by three MONUSCO Police trainers, the program had theoretical courses on the concepts of offences, judiciary police, legal framework for judicial investigations, studies of concept like research, handling of evidence in criminal trial and principles on penal responsibility.

Applauding MONUSCO’s initiative in organizing this training, Major Daniel Shirunga, Deputy district commander of PNC Uvira sad “the workshop will help participants familiarize with different offences which are the root causes of abuses.»

During the closing session, the administrator of Uvira territory highlighted the requirement for the OPJs to abide by the principle on presumption of innocence” which is a key provision in the context of Uvira where there is lot of rumors.
