MONUSCO refurbishes classrooms for Nyakasanza high school

Bunia – 15 September 2015: Three classrooms refurbished with MONUSCO’s support were inaugurated by Martin Kobler, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in DRC. These newly refurbished classrooms will accommodate 450 school students, 150 boys and 300 girls and will offer them the best conditions.

The rehabilitation of Nyakasanza high school is an illustration of the work achieved by MONUSCO in favor of the population. Following the bad infrastructures that used to prevent quality studies in the area, students’ parents framed a project requiring MONUSCO’s support. With its quick impact project for the restoration of the State, MONUSCO provided the fund for the refurbishment work on the Nyakasanza high school, worth $28 000. Encouraged by MONUSCO’s initiative, DRC’s Social Fund built six more classrooms.

The keys for the newly refurbished classrooms were handed to the school master, a nun, and to the students’ representative; the three classrooms accommodated 160 additional students at the beginning of the year. Each classroom is equipped with twenty desks and one table for the teachers. Latrines were also built to help the female and boy students to study in better conditions.

In his speech, Martin Kobler pleaded with the teachers, students’ parents and students to take good care of the refurbished rooms so that young girls and boys will benefit from lasting education et be promoted in Bunia. Martin Kobler encouraged them to take seriously their studies and develop their potentials. He wrapped up with these words “maybe the future president of the Democratic Republic of Congo (male or female) is among you”.
