The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Head of MONUSCO, James Swan, was received on Tuesday by the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner.
The meeting took place in the context of strengthening the partnership between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the United Nations, at a time when coordinated efforts remain essential to advancing peace, stability and security in the country.
Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the DRC and the United Nations, as well as the need to ensure close coordination between diplomatic efforts, regional mechanisms, and humanitarian and security realities on the ground.
On this occasion, James Swan expressed his honour at returning to the DRC and commended the country’s diplomatic engagement, as well as its efforts to strengthen its position at the regional and international levels.
The Head of MONUSCO also reaffirmed the Mission’s readiness to continue working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on issues of common interest, in a spirit of trust, mutual respect and constructive partnership.
“I commend the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s diplomatic engagement and the efforts undertaken to strengthen its position on the regional and international stage.” said the Head of MONUSCO.
Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining a coherent and coordinated approach to effectively address ongoing security and humanitarian challenges, and to support efforts towards sustainable peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
