During the month of August, MONUSCO distinguished itself through various operations in the DRC, particularly in the areas of security, emergency relief, and community support. In Kinshasa, the Mont-Amba police station was renovated, while in Beni, a team of firefighters successfully brought a fire under control. With regard to social cohesion, an awareness campaign against online disinformation was conducted throughout the month in conjunction with Youth Day.
On the ground, efforts to protect civilians in Ituri included patrols in Kavelega and the happy resolution of the disappearance of two young girls in Djugu. Logistical support and infrastructure rehabilitation were also on the agenda, notably through support for the Ebola health response in Nia-Nia and the repair of the Nizi Bridge by UN peacekeepers.

Relief in Djugu; MONUSCO reunites two missing girls with their family and calms tensions in Ituri.
For several days, two young girls who went missing near Jiba, in Djugu territory, #Ituri, left their family and an entire community deeply worried. They were eventually found safe and sound and reunited with their loved ones.
After being alerted to their disappearance, #MONUSCO Community Liaison Assistants and Bangladeshi peacekeepers worked with local authorities, traditional chiefs and community leaders. Through dialogue and mediation, the girls were brought to safety, while tensions between communities that had begun to rise following their disappearance were eased.
The same operation also enabled a woman injured during armed clashes, who had been waiting for several months for security conditions to allow her to leave Jiba safely, to reunite with her family.
In Bunia, Police are better handling cases related to sexual violence in their new premises
At the new premises of the Police Child Protection and Prevention of Sexual Violence Unit (EPEPVS) in the city of Bunia, everyone is busy. There is no shortage of cases to handle. In her brand-new, spacious and well-equipped office, Deputy Senior Commissioner Séraphine Falao Mbolyaita beams with pride.
The new premises of the Bunia Police Child Protection and Prevention of Sexual Violence Unit were inaugurated on February 17, 2026.
A visit to the premises reveals modern offices, new furniture, a designated reception area and a working environment suited to the needs of victims of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
In Nia-Nia, #Ituri, #MONUSCO has established a temporary operating base to help secure #Ebola response operations and contribute to the protection of local communities.
While establishing the base, Nepalese peacekeepers discovered military equipment — a weapon, ammunition and a uniform. In accordance with operational procedures, the equipment was officially handed over to @FARDC_officiel
A repaired bridge also means keeping a vital route accessible to communities.
From 20 to 21 August, Nepalese #MONUSCO peacekeepers strengthened their presence around Nizi Bridge in #Ituri to secure repair work carried out by the Mission’s Nepalese engineers.
Patrols also extended to the localities of Tsigbi, Lingi and Sombe. Particular attention was given to securing the repair work at night, in coordination with the FARDC.
The objective: to ensure the repairs could proceed safely, deter potential threats and preserve freedom of movement for local communities.
