MONUSCO
United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Committing to peace is a demanding choice, guided by duty and a sense of humanity. Coming from diverse backgrounds, these women and men shared one common mission: to protect and serve communities. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, their commitment has left a lasting impact. Their memory remains both a reference point and a responsibility: to carry forward their commitment to the protection of civilians.

INVEST IN PEACE

Peace is a collective effort !

The image of our peacekeepers and community members standing side by side reflects our deep conviction: peace is a collective effort.

Investing in peace means empowering communities to protect themselves and succeed.

In the DRC, MONUSCO works every day to ensure that this investment delivers tangible results for every civilian.

Investir dans la paix

Protection of civilians remains MONUSCO’s highest priority, in line with the mandate entrusted to it by the United Nations Security Council. In close cooperation with the Congolese Government, the Mission’s military and police components work alongside the FARDC and the PNC to strengthen security in areas most affected by conflict. But stabilization cannot rely solely on a security response: the Mission also supports community dialogue, assists with justice and security sector reforms, and coordinates its efforts with UN agencies as well as national and international partners. Through this integrated approach, MONUSCO contributes to restoring confidence in State institutions and creating the conditions for a credible, responsible, and sustainable transition in the post-MONUSCO era.

Adapting to remain effective

The world is changing, and so are the security challenges in the DRC. To remain effective, the UN peacekeeping mission continuously adapts.

MONUSCO is evolving to respond to the real needs of the population: investing in peace also means investing in an agile mission, ready to face today’s realities.
