The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) on Thursday, June 4, inaugurated new prefabricated offices and equipment aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Enhanced Joint Verification Mechanism (EJVM+). This initiative forms part of its support for regional efforts to promote peace and stability in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The ceremony took place in Goma, North Kivu, in the presence of General Nakeempa, Commander of the EJVM+ as well as representatives of MONUSCO and other authorities.
In addition to the offices, the donation includes a conference table, conference chairs, office desks and chairs, a refrigerator, a printer, and various administrative supplies intended for the daily functioning of the mechanism.
This support aims to improve the EJVM+ working conditions and enhance its effectiveness in carrying out its mandate of monitoring, tracking, and impartially verifying the ceasefire in the region.
In his remarks, Gani Are, Head of the MONUSCO Office in Goma, reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting the strengthening of the EJVM+ operational, logistical, and material capacities. He noted that a mechanism equipped with appropriate infrastructure and adequate resources would be better positioned to carry out its mandate effectively and help build confidence among the parties involved.

Through MONUSCO, the United Nations firmly believes that strengthening the operational, logistical, and material capacities of the EJVM+ will improve its effectiveness, transparency, and overall contribution to peace and stability in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. I am personally convinced that a well-equipped EJVM+ will be stronger, more resilient, and better able to fulfill its essential mandate of building trust among the parties through impartial monitoring and verification of the ceasefire,” said the Head of the MONUSCO Office in Goma.
He also emphasized the importance of partnership among the United Nations, national authorities, and regional organizations in efforts to stabilize eastern DRC.
MONUSCO remains committed to working alongside national authorities and regional organizations to support stabilization efforts, good governance, and sustainable development. We firmly believe that lasting peace can only be achieved through strong, inclusive, and accountable institutions,” he stated.
The mechanism now benefits from improved working conditions to continue its verification mission and contribute to strengthening trust among stakeholders engaged in the search for lasting peace in eastern DRC.
The ceremony concluded with a tour of the new offices and the official handover of the equipment.
