The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Head of MONUSCO, Mr. James Swan, was received on Thursday in Kinshasa by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka for discussions on the country’s current security, diplomatic and humanitarian priorities.

The meeting focused primarily on the security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, the implementation of MONUSCO’s mandate in line with Security Council resolution 2808 (2025), and ongoing diplomatic efforts to support peace and stabilization in the country.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. James Swan reaffirmed MONUSCO’s commitment to continue supporting peace efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo within the framework of its mandate. He notably underscored the importance of progress made through the Washington, Doha and African Union-led processes, as well as the need to support the implementation of the ceasefire and continue efforts to protect civilians.

The discussions also addressed the response to the Ebola outbreak, particularly in Ituri, where MONUSCO is providing essential logistical and operational support as part of the response led by the Congolese authorities with the support of the United Nations system and its partners.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the close cooperation between the Congolese Government and the United Nations on major priorities, including peace consolidation, protection of civilians, and the strengthening of the response to health emergencies.

Through this exchange, the Government and MONUSCO reiterated their shared determination to continue, together with relevant partners, efforts aimed at promoting stability, supporting populations affected by conflict, and responding effectively to the humanitarian and health challenges the country continues to face.
