Bunia, 15 Dec.2014: As part of the professional and operational capacity-building for senior and junior staff members of the Congolese National Police (PNC) in the territory of Mambasa, MONUSCO Police in Bunia officially launched the training for the 245 police members on Monday 15 December in a ceremony held at the Bunia Police Academy attended by local authorities and heads of MONUSCO sections.

Scheduled for 6 months, the training will focus on the maintenance of peace and order, intervention techniques, human rights and police professional ethics.

Lieutenant-Colonel Romain Bisiono, PNC commander in Ituri believes that the “refresher course will contribute to the upgrading of the PNC Mambasa’s capacities to help them better cope” with the flare up of rape and extortion associated with kidnappings in the mining sites.”

The head of MONUSCO office says the training is part of the implementation of MONUSCO’s concept of island of stability and is aimed to “reinforce state authority in Mambasa where the Mai-Mai Simba continue to commit reprehensible acts against the population.”
