International Human Rights Day in Uvira


Uvira, South-Kivu, 10 December 2014 - Non-government Human Rights Organizations in In Uvira, South Kivu took the opportunity of the commemoration of the International Human Rights Day to call upon the Congolese Government “to do everything in its power” to help the local population to have easy access to justice and improve the overall human rights situation in the territories of Fizi and Uvira.

The rights NGOs applauded the increased judiciary prosecutions against perpetrators of human violations over the past months.

Several activities were carried out on the occasion of the commemoration of the Human several activities including a motorized caravan, in which a hundred people participated. During the event, special tribute was paid to the United Nations for their support to human Rights activists and the promotion of human rights, through the UN Joint Human Rights Office in the Democratic Republic of Congo which play a key role in the fight against impunity for those perpetrating Human rights violations.
