MONUSCO launches "A New Congo" campaign in Kinshasa

Kinshasa , 29 January 2011 - Mindful of the good relations between the Congolese population and the United Nations System, the UN Stabilization Mission in the DR Congo (MONUSCO) through its Public Information Division, last week-end launched a month-long sensitization campaign in the country's capital, Kinshasa.

The campaign, which is based on the slogan "UN Congo Nouveau" – a play on words in French , which means "A New Congo" –, kicked off in the populous neighborhood of Selembao, a dozen kilometers west of the city center. It is spearheaded by Washiba, a popular musical group, which appeals to the youths through its contemporary choreography and lyrics.
The campaign is built around four main themes: Peacemaking and Protection of Civilians; Assistance to the most Vulnerable Populations; Reinforcement of Rule of Law and Peace Consolidation; and Economic Recovery and Development.
Washiba will tour the different neighborhoods of Kinshasa all month of February, carrying out messages of peace and its corollaries.
