Kananga, 22 June 2018 – MONUSCO Political Affairs Section held an awareness session for forty young people including 11 women in the conference hall of MONUSCO headquarters in Kananga, Kasaï-Central.

Drawn from member organizations of the Provincial Youth Council, the young people, together with the head of the political Affairs in Kasaï, Mr. Tarizzo Daniela, perused MONUSCO’s mandate derived from the UNSC Resolution 2409(2018).

They also discussed the electoral process and the freedom of expression in the Kasaï province.

Mrs. Tarizzo said dialogue is key to successful electoral process. ‘’This type of meeting held with the youth, and later on with other sections of the population, is, first and foremost, aimed to promote dialogue. Renewing the concept of dialogue, i.e., holding peaceful talks and achieving results are of paramount importance,’’ she further said, highlighting: ‘’People don’t necessarily need to change their opinions but to discuss openly and reach common ground for perfection is just an ideal. So, the different positions need to be intelligently reconciled.’’

The youth, for their part, engaged in promoting dialogue in their respective environments.

‘’‘We clearly know what we have to do to promote dialogue during the electoral process,’’ said Michael Kadima, member of the Provincial Youth Council.

‘’We have to engage ourselves; we need to know what it is about since we have to increase awareness, to mobilize, to inform the youth who are not here with us today to also have an idea on how the electoral process will unfold in our country the Democratic Republic of Congo,’’ he said.

This activity, according to the Political Affairs Section in Kananga, marks the beginning of a program adopted by MONUSCO to bring the different sections of the population together through the preparation of peaceful elections.
