The month of June was marked by a broad range of multisectoral activities carried out by MONUSCO. The protection of civilians remained at the core of the Mission’s work, notably through the release of 122 children from armed groups in Walikale and specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) training provided to the FARDC in Beni. The Mission also diversified its interventions by promoting positive masculinity within the Congolese National Police (PNC), deploying a mobile operational base in Ituri to support the Ebola response, and launching community-based development projects—including infrastructure and water supply initiatives—in Kyanzaba.
At the institutional level, two press releases underscored the continuity of MONUSCO’s commitment: the visit of James Swan to Goma, which reaffirmed the United Nations mandate under Security Council Resolution 2808, and the Mission’s mobilization following the tragic death of a staff member from Ebola. Finally, the commemoration of the Day of the African Child provided an opportunity to raise awareness of children's rights, reaffirming that the protection of tomorrow begins with protecting children today.
