MONUSCO provides mattresses, blankets and medicines to an orphanage and a health centre in Bunia

The Moroccan contingent of MONUSCO provided material and medical support on Monday, 2 February, to the Saint Kizito Orphanage in Bunia, in Ituri Province. The donation consisted of mattresses, blankets and medical consumables, as well as a significant batch of medicines for the health centre partnering with the orphanage. Our Mission

MONUSCO helps to protect civilians and establish peace on Congolese territory through its presence in Ituri and North Kivu.

MONUC, which became MONUSCO in 2010, was created in 1999 to monitor and implement the ceasefire between the DRC, Angola, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The ceasefire helped stabilize the region after years of conflict, causing over 5 million deaths.

The mission has been authorized to use all necessary means to carry out its mandate relating, among other things, to the protection of civilians, humanitarian personnel and human rights defenders under imminent threat of physical violence and to support the Government of the DRC in its stabilization and peace consolidation efforts.

Radio Okapi a voice for all

Radio Okapi is the United Nations radio in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It first went on the air on 25 February 2002 from Kinshasa studios to the entire DRC territory. It will go down in history as it broadcasted the Inter-Congolese talks live from Sun City.

Reporting misconduct
Under the Secretary-General Bulletin on “Special measures for protection from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse” and MONUSCO Code of Conduct, all UN personnel have the duty to report all allegations of misconduct.

United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

MONUSCO took over from an earlier UN peacekeeping operation – the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) – on 1 July 2010. It was done in accordance with Security Council resolution 1925 of 28 May to reflect the new phase.
